About the role

QuiteLike is seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join our innovative team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing our outsourced partner and collaborating closely with business stakeholders to identify and deliver the data solutions that underpin the architecture. You will lead the design, implementation, and optimisation of data pipelines and architecture using Databricks, ensuring they are scalable, reliable, and high-performing.

A key aspect of your role will be to spearhead the development of a semantic layer within the QuiteLike Databricks environment, enabling seamless, intuitive, and efficient data access and analysis for business users. About You

  • 5+ years’ experience as a Senior Data Engineer with a focus on Databricks (on either AWS or Azure cloud platform).
  • 3+ years’ experience working with Databricks and Pyspark building data pipelines, architectures and data sets.
  • Data architecture development.
  •  In-depth knowledge of Model and Design of DB schemas for read and write performance.
  • Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python.
  • Adopting a CI/CD Pipeline mindset.
  • Working knowledge of API or Stream-based data extraction processes. Experience performing root cause analysis on all data and processes to answer specific questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Proven track record of designing and building semantic layers within Databricks or similar platforms.
  • Deep understanding of data governance principles and experience implementing governance frameworks.
  • Establish and enforce best practices for data governance, security, and compliance within Databricks and Power BI environments.
  • Democratisation of data for business use.

 

Core Technical Skills

  • Data Tool Familiarity: Proficiency in working modern cloud data platforms such as Databricks or Snowflake or with OLTP and OLAP data tools.
  • Database Design: Ability to design and build database objects effectively.
  • SQL Mastery: Proficiency in developing data transformations using SQL.
  • Data Modelling: Skill in modelling data using star schemas.
  • Data Loading Strategies: Knowledge to select and implement full-batch or delta data loads to suit a given use-case.
  • Metadata-Driven ETL: Experience implementing metadata-driven ETL frameworks.
  • Data Extraction Flexibility: Ability to extract data from various formats (JSON, CSV, Excel, XML) and sources (flat files, APIs, databases) across different data timeliness (batch, near-real time, streaming).
  • Beyond SQL: Proficiency in using languages other than SQL (Python, Java, or Scala) for data transformations.
  • ETL Standards: Establishing (and adhering to) ETL delivery standards.

  • Be able to lead external data engineers to deliver data solutions in an agile manner.
  • Be able to work with product managers on data solutions and provide estimates on delivery effort.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Ability to coordinate across multiple technology and business teams to drive alignment and deliver impactful data solutions.
  • Be able to provide training to business users on how to use the data within the data platform.
  • Excellent analytical and problem resolution skills.
  • Ability to drive and enforce data engineering best practices.
