About the team
Our Technology team is the backbone of the business, building and maintaining the information technology infrastructure that support Coles Group. As a part of the Technology team, you get the opportunity to work through complex, challenging, meaningful problems using large data sets and new technologies to expand your skills and experience.
About the role:
We are seeking a Workplace Services Architect to join our Technology team, reporting to the Domain Architect. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in shaping and delivering the architectural vision for Workplace Services, supporting the Domain Architect in maintaining alignment with business strategy and platform evolution.
The Workplace Services team manages broad and mission critical services; from an applications perspective, we own the strategy and delivery of Enterprise Workplace Technology platforms and tools, from a Workplace Infrastructure perspective our infrastructure services and devices span Supermarkets, Liquor Stores, Supply chain sites (Distribution and Customer Fulfilment centres) and Store Support Centres.
The Delivery team is responsible for new store launches, renewals, project delivery, and essential maintenance across the Coles network. You will collaborate with this team to ensure architectural consistency and support innovation.
Key accountabilities include:

Shape and govern the strategic architectural vision for Workplace Services in partnership with Domain Architects and Service Owners, ensuring cohesive alignment with enterprise architecture principles, technology strategy, and evolving business priorities.

Drive the multi-year architectural roadmap for Workplace Technology and influence investment decisions across the digital workplace domain.

Provide end-to-end architectural leadership and accountability for Workplace Services solutions — encompassing Workplace Technology Applications, endpoint management, build and configuration platforms, Virtual Desktop/Citrix environments, infrastructure foundations, and retail edge integrations.

Ensure the workplace domain evolves with changing technology and employee experience needs

Oversee lifecycle management of workplace platforms and tools to ensure stability, currency, and supportability.

Define and govern the architectural principles, design patterns, and technology standards for the domain to drive architectural coherence, interoperability, and regulatory compliance across all platforms and solutions.

Provide architectural governance and oversight for complex solution designs, major platform transformations, and strategic technology adoptions across the domain.

Partner with vendors and internal stakeholders to introduce innovation while maintaining enterprise standards.

Set and uphold architecture principles, design patterns and technology standards for the domain to ensure consistency, interoperability and compliance

Review and provide architectural oversight for significant solution designs, platform changes and new technology introductions within the domain

Actively contribute to the enterprise architecture community, working with other domain architects to shape cross-domain integration, shared services and strategic platforms
About you and your skills:

10+ years in technology architecture roles, including experience as a lead or enterprise architect in complex, enterprise environment.

Experience in a Retail environment highly desirable

Proven experience defining domain or enterprise-level architecture strategies and roadmaps and aligning them to business priorities and enterprise goals

Track record of leading architectural governance, design authority and standards definition in fast-paced delivery environments

Extensive experience designing scalable, secure and integrated platforms or systems across multiple technologies and architectural styles

Experience influencing senior technology and business stakeholders and facilitating consensus across competing priorities

Experience in large-scale transformation, legacy modernisation and platform consolidation initiatives

Demonstrated ability to work in federated or matrixed architectural environments, collaborating across domain and enterprise boundaries

Deep expertise in architecture frameworks and practices such as TOGAF, Zachman or similar – formal certification is advantageous

Understanding of enterprise integration, data flows, API management and security architecture
