About the team

We have the ambition to become Australia's most sustainable supermarket.  As one of Australia’s leading companies we need to show the way forward. By acting together now, we can create a better Australia for future generations.

About the Role

We’re seeking Sustainability Capability & Advisory Manager with a growth mindset; a systems thinker with a passion for building organisational capability and driving change. This role is about enabling transformation across a large, complex organisation, anticipating future sustainability challenges, shaping capability strategies, and partnering extensively across the organisation to embed sustainability into our ways of working and leadership development.

You’ll also:

  • Monitor regulatory, market, and customer trends to identify emerging sustainability issues and capability needs; always be scanning the horizon to keep Coles informed and prepared
  • Define and uplift sustainability-related skills and behaviours across the organisation, co-designing programs with L&D with a focus on capability building
  • Act as a trusted advisor to business units, translating complex sustainability requirements into practical guidance
  • Partner with P&C to integrate sustainability capability into enterprise change programs and cultural initiatives
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with senior leaders, category managers, and external experts to embed sustainability thinking into planning and procurement

About you and your skills

Our ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, comfortable navigating complexity and ambiguity. You excel at influencing senior leaders, building enterprise-wide programs, and translating complex sustainability trends into practical, actionable solutions. Collaboration is second nature; you work seamlessly with cross-functional teams to embed capability into business planning. You also anticipate future challenges and proactively prepare the organisation to meet them.

You’ll also ideally have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Sustainability, Organisational Development, or related fields
  • Extensive experience in organisational capability, change management, or sustainability roles within large, complex organisations
  • Systems thinking and strategic foresight with a growth mindset and future focused
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and facilitation skills
  • Proven ability to influence senior leaders and drive enterprise-wide programs
  • Knowledge of global sustainability frameworks and workforce trends
