About the team

Our Technology team is the backbone of the business, building and maintaining the information technology infrastructure that support Coles Group. As a part of the Technology team, you get the opportunity to work through complex, challenging, meaningful problems using large data sets and new technologies to expand your skills and experience.

About the role:

As a Technical Business Analyst, you’ll play a critical role in bridging the gap between business needs and technical solutions, ensuring we deliver value across our digital landscape.

At Coles, we are looking for a Senior Technical Business Analyst who can operate confidently in complex technical problem spaces and translate them into clear, meaningful insights for non-technical stakeholders. You can read and interpret technical documentation (e.g. architecture and design artefacts, platform runbooks, incident/post-incident reports, cloud and Kubernetes concepts) and turn it into a shared understanding of what we are solving and why it matters.

We work in an agile, DevOps-aligned way with shared accountability for outcomes. We invest in discovery, collaborate closely across product, engineering and operations, and learn through iterative delivery rather than large up-front specification. You will support experimentation, refine work based on evidence, and ensure solutions are viable, valuable and supportable in production.

Our engineers own the how; you will unlock the why and what, reducing reliance on architects/engineers for explanation and enabling better, faster decisions.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead discovery to clarify the real problem, desired outcomes, constraints, risks and assumptions.
  • Capture functional and non-functional requirements in a way that supports clear decisions and delivery.
  • Translate technical complexity into accessible summaries, options, and decision papers.
  • Apply data literacy to interpret insights and communicate them in business terms.
  • Define acceptance criteria focused on customer and operational outcomes, and validate solutions against intent.
  • Drive root cause analysis that goes beyond symptoms and supports sustainable improvement.
  • Maintain process and data flows, support testing and defect management, and align work to enterprise standards.
  • Contribute to improved BA/product-thinking practice through templates, ways of working, coaching and communities of practice.

About you and your skills:

  • Demonstrated capability in business analysis (role title not essential) including problem framing, options analysis, and outcomes focus.
  • Strong technical mindset with the ability to independently understand technical documents and concepts.
  • Experience with, or strong understanding of, cloud platforms (ideally Azure) and Kubernetes (or adjacent domains with clear evidence of learning).
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and facilitation skills, able to create shared understanding across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Agile mindset beyond ceremonies, with a focus on collaboration, shared ownership and continuous refinement.
  • Leadership behaviours including mentoring, guiding teams through ambiguity, and contributing positively to culture.
  • Product-thinking approach: connecting work to customer and business value, supporting prioritisation, and ideally contributing to roadmaps and stakeholder discovery.

If you are a product-thinking Senior Technical BA who can translate complexity into clarity and help teams deliver measurable outcomes, we would like to hear from you.
