About the team
Our Technology team is the backbone of the business, building and maintaining the information technology infrastructure that support Coles Group. As a part of the Technology team, you get the opportunity to work through complex, challenging, meaningful problems using large data sets and new technologies to expand your skills and experience.
About the role:
As a Technical Business Analyst, you’ll play a critical role in bridging the gap between business needs and technical solutions, ensuring we deliver value across our digital landscape.
Key Responsibilities:
- Eliciting Requirements: Work closely with stakeholders to uncover the real business problem—not just the symptoms. Capture both functional and non-functional requirements with precision.
- Business Process Re-Engineering: Identify opportunities to improve processes and practices, driving efficiency and effectiveness across the business.
- Data Literacy & Translation: Interpret data, understand statistical significance, and translate insights into actionable business language.
- Requirements Gathering & Documentation: Produce clear, complete, and consistent documentation aligned with Coles principles to enable successful delivery.
- Solution Assessment & Validation: Ensure solutions meet all documented requirements through rigorous validation.
- Root Cause Analysis: Go beyond surface issues to identify and address true root causes.
- Enterprise Awareness & Acumen: Understand how solutions fit within Coles’ retail environment and technology ecosystem, including store operations and digital platforms.
- Writing User Stories: Develop high-level Agile and Waterfall requirements that enable accurate estimation without over-engineering.
- Systems Domain Knowledge: Apply expertise in systems used across Coles.
- Technical Writing: Create accessible technical documentation, test plans, and user guides.
Additional Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain end-to-end process and data flows across infrastructure systems.
- Coordinate integration testing and validate solutions with application teams and business users.
- Log, prioritise, and track defect resolution to ensure timely delivery.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives in configuration management and monitoring processes.
- Maintain alignment with enterprise standards and governance frameworks.
- Act as the central communication point between business and technical teams, ensuring transparency and stakeholder confidence throughout the project lifecycle.

- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Proven experience in business analysis within complex technical environments.
- Familiarity with Agile and Waterfall methodologies.
