Our Technology team is the backbone of the business, building and maintaining the information technology infrastructure that support Coles Group. About the role


In this role, you’ll play a key part in shaping and strengthening Quality Engineering within your business unit—driving greater agility, advancing test automation, and unlocking meaningful efficiencies across delivery.


You’ll support quality outcomes across multiple concurrent initiatives, bringing consistency through a shared testing approach, smarter use of capability, and clear, actionable metrics—ultimately helping teams deliver faster and with greater confidence.


You’ll also contribute to the ongoing evolution of Quality Engineering capability, frameworks, and patterns that underpin our business applications. This includes areas such as test automation, continuous testing, test data creation, and early-stage security testing.


Working closely with project teams, programs, and agile squads, you’ll help embed and scale these capabilities—ensuring they’re adopted effectively and deliver real value where it matters most.


Automation experience is a must have for this role.

 

About you and your skills


•    At least 5 years’ experience in the automation, development and testing fields, including on digital products in an agile environment, with experience contributing to large programs of work.
•    Demonstrated experience in evolving and maintaining technical solutions for complex and distributed environments.
•    Comprehensive understanding of all aspects of the technology’s broader operational environment (i.e., processes, procedures, associated toolsets, operating systems, etc.).
•    Strong Manual and Automated testing experience, including demonstrated success with evolving and maintaining Automated Testing solutions
•    Demonstrated experience with a variety of licenced and open-source automation tools, frameworks, scripting languages (e.g. UFT, RestAssured, Selenium, SpecFlow, Appium, Cucumber, C#, JavaScript, Ruby, Java etc)
•    Experience with the agile development process and developing code in alignment with coding standards and business processes.
•    Demonstrated experience delivering automated testing, both in terms of process and tools (e.g., Microfocus ALM, Jira, Microsoft Test Manager, etc).
•    Demonstrated experience with evolving and maintaining Behaviour Driven Development (BDD) and Test-Driven Development (TDD) test automation frameworks compatible with diverse technology stacks.
•    Demonstrated experience with testing aspects of DevOps including IaC for continuous testing purposes using tools such as Bamboo, Jenkins or AzureDevOps.
•    Understanding of GenAI, preferably OpenAI GPT and LangChain4J and their application to testing uses cases.
•    Understanding of engineering principles, products, and services in a hybrid cloud environment, with a technical background.
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to influence and persuade outcomes / direction
•    Excellent analytical and problem resolution skills
•    Minimum Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in computer systems or Software engineering related qualification
•    Experience in quality engineering solution design for continuous testing and test automation.
•    Market knowledge and experience in the delivery of retail and technology solutions
•    Risk management skills
•    Stakeholder management skills
