Our Technology team is the backbone of the business, building and maintaining the information technology infrastructure that support Coles Group. About the role
As a Senior Quality Engineer, you will strengthen and support Quality Engineering practices across multiple projects, ensuring consistent test processes, effective automation, and high‑quality delivery outcomes. You’ll work closely with delivery, engineering, and product teams to design and implement test automation solutions, contribute to continuous testing pipelines, and improve speed‑to‑value through modern QE patterns. The role involves hands‑on automation development, test design, defect lifecycle management, and coaching teams on best‑practice quality engineering approaches.
Key responsibilities include
- Supporting the delivery of quality engineering outcomes across multiple projects through consistent test processes, shared metrics, and uplift of automation patterns.
- Contributing to test planning, test case design, reporting, environment requirements, and risk‑based testing approaches.
- Designing, building, and maintaining test automation solutions and continuous testing pipelines aligned to project and enterprise standards.
- Developing high‑quality automated test scripts in at least two programming languages such as JavaScript, Java, C#, or Python.
- Engaging in the full defect lifecycle, including authoring, triaging, and retesting, while ensuring high‑quality reporting and documentation.
- Contributing to quality engineering frameworks, patterns, DevOps‑aligned automation capabilities, and early‑stage security and integration testing.
- Using CI/CD, containerisation and cloud‑based tools such as Bamboo, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, Kubernetes, and Docker to enable continuous testing.
- Supporting the adoption of quality engineering practices across teams through enablement, coaching, and collaboration.
- Applying intelligent test design techniques such as pair-wise analysis to maximise coverage while minimising effort.
- Staying current with emerging quality engineering technologies, including GenAI tools and modern automation frameworks.
About you and your skills
You will bring strong technical depth and Quality Engineering capability, with core strengths including:
- Extensive experience (5+ years) in automation, development, and testing across digital products in agile environments.
- Hands‑on expertise building and maintaining automation frameworks using tools such as Selenium, Appium, RestAssured, SpecFlow, Cucumber, or UFT.
- Strong coding capability in at least two programming languages (e.g., Java, JavaScript, C#, Python) with the ability to conduct peer reviews.
- Experience with CI/CD, DevOps practices, infrastructure‑as‑code and continuous testing tools.
- Ability to design high‑quality test cases, apply risk‑based testing, and deliver automation aligned to coding standards and delivery processes.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, hybrid cloud environments, and enterprise operational toolsets.
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and debugging skills with the ability to navigate complex delivery contexts.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence delivery teams and advocate for quality.
- Experience implementing QE solutions for continuous testing, automation frameworks, or test environment requirements.
- Commitment to continuous learning and staying current with emerging quality engineering technologies and practices.
