As the way we shop continues to evolve, our Digital team keeps us at the cutting edge. Driven by our innovative, inclusive, and forward-thinking culture, we’re constantly looking at ways to create differentiated, omni-channel experiences for our customers and build the next generation of digital retailing.
About the Role
At Coles, we’re reimagining retail financial services through innovation, trust, and a strong focus on customer-centric solutions. With the establishment of our new subsidiary – Retail Payment Solutions (RPS) – we are setting the foundations for a bold future in regulated payments. RPS will operate under an Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL) and as a reporting entity to AUSTRAC, and we’re looking for passionate experts to shape this new chapter.
We are seeking an experienced and adaptable Senior Manager, Risk & Compliance to play a critical role in the development and implementation of our risk and compliance frameworks. Reporting to the Head of Payments, this newly created second-line role will support both foundational and BAU activities of the RPS entity, ensuring full compliance with AFSL and AML/CTF obligations. You will drive the development of policies, frameworks, risk programs and training, and play a key role in managing regulatory relationships (e.g., ASIC and AUSTRAC). This is a rare opportunity to shape the compliance culture of a newly formed, regulated entity from the ground up.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead the design and delivery of the risk and compliance strategy for RPS.
- Manage the RPS AFSL Compliance Program in alignment with Coles Group’s Compliance Management Framework.
- Liaise with regulators and internal stakeholders, ensuring timely reporting and engagement.
- Develop risk management programs, monitoring plans, and escalation pathways.
- Provide 2nd line oversight on business risk profiles, compliance monitoring, and regulatory obligations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Legal, Privacy, Audit, etc.) to ensure alignment across governance functions.
- Influence and educate stakeholders to embed a strong culture of compliance and risk management.
What You’ll Bring
- 5+ years’ experience in a management role within financial services, payments, banking, or brokerage.
- Deep understanding of AFSL and AML/CTF regulatory frameworks, with experience in 2nd line compliance or risk roles.
- Proven experience leading compliance programs and managing risk in complex environments.
- Strong communication, analytical, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field and/or industry certifications (e.g., GRC, Audit, Compliance).
- Strategic mindset with strong commercial and project management acumen.
