About the team
Our Technology team is the backbone of the business, building and maintaining the information technology infrastructure that support Coles Group. As a part of the Technology team, you get the opportunity to work through complex, challenging, meaningful problems using large data sets and new technologies to expand your skills and experience.
About the role
To lead the Commerce Services engineering domain, ensuring the reliability, scalability, security and evolution of core eCommerce backend services that support digital trading, omnichannel customer journeys and peak retail events.
This role exists to balance operational excellence with modernisation, enabling safe, incremental change to businesscritical commerce systems while supporting growth, cost optimisation and regulatory compliance across the eCommerce ecosystem.
Experience
- At least 7 years’ senior IT leadership experience within digital commerce, retail or complex transactional environments
- Proven experience leading large, businesscritical services operating at scale and under peak trade conditions
- Demonstrated success managing multiple delivery models including internal squads, offshore teams and strategic partners
- Strong background in modern distributed systems, APIs, integration patterns and cloudenabled architectures
- Experience operating in regulated environments with strong security, stability and availability obligations
- Proven people leadership capability, including managing managers and building highperforming, engaged teams
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to influence outcomes without formal authority
- Strong financial experience (cost centre, initiative budgets, forecasting, manage vendor commercial & performance and cost optimisation)
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

Commerce Services Domain Management
- Accountable for the health, evolution and reliability of core commerce services including cart, checkout, pricing, promotions, payments, order orchestration and integrations
- Define and own the domain engineering strategy and roadmap
- Balance modernisation with operational stability
- Drive architectural simplification and system resilience
Product & Engineering Delivery / Product Engineering & Quality
- Lead multiple squads and initiatives across the Commerce Services portfolio
- Align delivery to business priorities and trading calendars
- Manage crossdomain dependencies and risks
- Apply hybrid gated delivery for riskcritical change
- Set and enforce engineering standards
- Promote clean, evolutionary architecture
- Embed security, privacy and resilience by design
- Drive continuous improvement and technical excellence
Product Operations
- “You build it, you run it” ownership of Commerce Services
- Incident, problem and escalation management
- Drive automation and reliability engineering
- Ensure peak event readiness (Christmas, Black Friday, Easter)
People Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Lead and develop Engineering Managers and senior engineers
- Build engaged, inclusive, highperformance teams
- Drive hiring, retention and succession
- Coach and mentor emerging leaders
- Communicate Commerce Services strategy and roadmap
- Partner closely with Product, Architecture and Security
- Represent Commerce Services in senior forums
- Build trust through transparency and delivery
