About the role


The Senior Engineer is a technical leader within the delivery team, responsible for designing, building, and maintaining high-quality, scalable and resilient technology solutions that support the Group’s retail operations across supermarkets, liquor, dairy, and digital platforms. 


This role combines deep technical expertise with hands-on delivery, driving best practices in software engineering, automation, and continuous improvement. You will be required to provide technical guidance to engineers within the squad, contribute to architectural discussions, and ensures solutions are aligned with broader enterprise and platform standards. 


Working collaboratively with product, architecture, and operations teams, you will help shape technical direction, resolve complex challenges, and deliver outcomes that enhance customer experience, business efficiency, and system reliability. The role also supports the development of engineering capability by mentoring others and promoting a culture of technical excellence and innovation.


This role requires strong experience across SAP Basis, SAP S/4HANA and SAP Security, supporting the stability, performance, and security of critical enterprise platforms. You will help ensure SAP environments are well maintained, optimised, and aligned with enterprise infrastructure and security standards, while supporting system reliability, access governance, and compliance requirements.

 

About you and your skills


•    Strong software engineering experience across modern technology stacks 
•    Proven experience designing and delivering solutions in complex, distributed, and cloud-based environments 
•    Experience with running SAP environments on cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and optimisation techniques 
•    Strong problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills 
•    Ability to influence technical outcomes without direct authority 
•    Effective communication skills, able to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders 
•    Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to technical leadership within a team 
•    Understanding of system reliability, performance considerations, and operational readiness 
•    Pragmatic mindset with a focus on delivering business value
•    Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline 
•    Extensive experience in software engineering or related technical roles 
•    Relevant technical certifications (SAP HANA, cloud, DevOps, or engineering disciplines) desirable
•    Thought leadership in engineering strategy / alignment with business strategy. 
•    Market knowledge and experience in the delivery and management of retail and technology solutions. 
•    Financial and risk management skills. 
•    Stakeholder management skills.
•    Bonus skills and experience: SAP RISE
•    Bonus skills and experience: SAP Cloud Platforms - BTP, Concur, Ariba, SuccessFactors, and Fieldglass.
