A new role means a new way to win together. We’ve been proudly serving Australian communities since 1914 and at the heart of our continued success lies our 115,000 team members working across the country. If you’re looking for a career-defining opportunity, take the next step and explore another way your work can have impact and make a difference.
About the team
Our Technology team is the backbone of the business, building and maintaining the information technology infrastructure that support Coles Group. As a part of the Technology team, you get the opportunity to work through complex, challenging, meaningful problems using large data sets and new technologies to expand your skills and experience.
As part of Coles’ broader Technology team, our Supply Chain Technology team partners closely with the business to deliver efficiency, resilience and innovation across one of Australia’s largest and most complex retail supply chain networks.
Our work supports the technology ecosystem that keeps products moving from suppliers through distribution centres, transport networks, fulfilment operations and into stores and customer channels. We enable our distribution, transport and supply chain operations through high-quality technology solutions that simplify complex ways of working and support reliable, scalable execution across the network.
Our platform landscape includes more than 40 tools and applications used every day by distribution and transport team members, including business-critical systems that support warehouse operations, transport planning, network visibility, automation and operational decision-making.
About the role
As Senior Architect, you will provide strategic leadership across the technology landscape that underpins Coles’ modern retail supply chain network.
You will shape, design and govern scalable, secure and integrated enterprise solutions that support the end-to-end supply chain, from planning and fulfilment through to distribution, transport and store operations.
Working closely with senior business and technology stakeholders, you will ensure solutions align to enterprise architecture principles, strategy, standards and best practice, while also identifying opportunities to improve supply chain performance through automation, integration, data and emerging technologies.
This role plays a critical part in enabling operational efficiency, network resilience, improved visibility and better decision-making across the supply chain. Your work will help ensure Coles’ technology investments deliver long-term business value, support future growth and improve experiences for customers and team members.
About you and your skills
You are an experienced architecture leader who understands the complexity of large-scale supply chain environments and can operate strategically while staying close to delivery. You bring strong systems thinking, commercial judgement and the ability to influence across complex stakeholder environments.
You will bring:
- 12+ years’ experience in technology architecture roles, including experience as a Lead or Senior Architect in large, complex organisations
- Proven experience defining domain architecture strategies and translating them into practical, actionable roadmaps
- Experience delivering major transformation programs, including legacy modernisation, platform consolidation, cloud migration and emerging technology adoption
- Strong capability influencing supply chain technology strategy, domain roadmaps and ways of working
- Experience in retail, supply chain, logistics or another complex, multi-site operational environment
- Strong understanding of supply chain network operations, including warehouse management, transport management, manufacturing, customer fulfilment, distribution centres, workforce management, automation and retail technology ecosystems
- Experience with edge technology, supply chain network automation, integration platforms and operational systems across distributed environments
- Deep knowledge of modern architecture patterns, including microservices, event-driven architecture, cloud-native platforms, API-led integration, distributed systems and edge computing
- Expertise across cloud architecture, including AWS, Azure or GCP, as well as SaaS integration, CI/CD tooling, API management, security architecture and data flows
- Demonstrated experience architecting large-scale, integrated platforms across retail, supply chain, logistics, eCommerce or other complex distributed environments
- Strong understanding of data architecture, governance, compliance requirements and resilience patterns for enterprise systems
- Familiarity with architecture frameworks such as TOGAF, Zachman or similar. Certification is desirable
- Strong stakeholder influencing skills, with the ability to drive alignment and consensus across senior stakeholders with competing priorities
- Experience navigating federated or matrixed architecture environments and aligning cross-domain decision-making
- Excellent conceptual modelling, analytical and problem-solving capability
- The ability to translate complex supply chain and technology environments into clear, business-relevant insights
- A pragmatic approach to innovation, balancing future-focused architecture with scalable, sustainable solutions that support operational and business outcomes
If you are passionate about using architecture to shape the future of supply chain technology and thrive in complex, fast-paced environments, we’d love to hear from you.
