Our Technology team is the backbone of the business, building and maintaining the information technology infrastructure that support Coles Group. As a part of the Technology team, you get the opportunity to work through complex, challenging, meaningful problems using large data sets and new technologies to expand your skills and experience.

As part of the broader Technology team, our supply chain team partners with the business to deliver efficiency and innovation for Coles as the leading retail supply chain network in Australia. 


We deliver value through quality technology solutions that simplify our distribution and transport businesses. Our platform includes over 40 tools and applications used by our distribution and transport team members daily, including business critical applications. 

 

About the role


The Senior Architect provides strategic leadership in designing, developing, and governing the technology landscape that underpins modern retail supply chain network domain. 


This role ensures that enterprise systems are architected for scalability, security, and seamless integration. Working closely with business and technology leaders, the Senior Solution Architect oversees solution alignment to enterprise principles, strategy, guidelines, standards, best practices and drives innovation through emerging technologies. 


The role plays a critical part in enabling operational efficiency, enhancing customer experiences, and ensuring that technology investments deliver long-term business value and resilience.

 

About you and your skills


•    12+ years in technology architecture roles, with experience operating as a Lead or Senior Architect in large, complex organisations.
•    Proven track record defining domain architecture strategies and translating them into actionable roadmaps.
•    Significant experience delivering major transformation programs: legacy modernisation, platform consolidation, cloud migration, and emerging technology adoption.
•    Strong experience influencing domain strategy, roadmap and ways of working.
•    Experience in retail or a similarly complex multi-site operational environment.
•    Deep understanding of supply chain network operations including warehouse, manufacturing, customer fulfilment, distribution centre, workforce management, and retail technology ecosystems.
•    Experience working with edge technology, supply chain network automation, and system integration.
•    Deep knowledge of modern architecture patterns: microservices, event-driven, cloud-native, API-led, distributed systems, and edge computing.
•    Expertise in cloud architecture (AWS, Azure or GCP), SaaS integration, CI/CD tooling, API management, security architecture, and data flows.
•    Demonstrated experience architecting large-scale, integrated platforms within retail, supply chain, eCommerce, or other complex distributed environments.
•    Strong understanding of data architecture, governance, compliance requirements, and resilience patterns for enterprise systems.
•    Familiarity with architecture frameworks (TOGAF, Zachman or similar). Certification is desirable.
•    Strong ability to influence at senior levels, driving consensus across divergent priorities.
•    Skilled at navigating federated or matrixed architecture environments and aligning cross-domain decision-making.
•    Excellent systems thinking, conceptual modelling, and analytical capability.
•    Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical environments into clear, business-relevant insights.
•    Ability to balance innovation with pragmatism—delivering scalable, sustainable architecture that supports business outcomes
