About the team

 

Our Technology team is the backbone of the business, building and maintaining the information technology infrastructure that support Coles Group. As a part of the Technology team, you get the opportunity to work through complex, challenging, meaningful problems using large data sets and new technologies to expand your skills and experience.

About the role


As a Quality Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of high‑quality, reliable and scalable technology solutions. You will apply modern engineering and testing practices, embed quality early in the lifecycle, and drive automation across multiple layers of the technology stack.


Working closely with engineering, product, DevOps and operations teams, you will design effective test strategies, build automated test suites, enhance frameworks and contribute to continuous improvement. This role requires strong technical capability, collaboration and a passion for quality engineering.

 

Key responsibilities include

 

  • Designing and maintaining automated tests across API, UI, integration and data layers
  • Creating effective test strategies based on risk, complexity and business impact
  • Partnering with developers to uplift unit, component and contract testing
  • Enhancing automation frameworks and integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines
  • Participating in story refinement and driving shift‑left quality practices
  • Supporting non‑functional testing activities including performance, security and reliability
  • Collaborating with product, engineering, DevOps and release teams to ensure end‑to‑end quality


About you and your skills


You will bring strong technical and analytical capability with a passion for quality, including:

  • Hands‑on experience with automated testing tools such as Playwright, Cypress, Selenium or REST Assured
  • Experience working with CI/CD toolchains and DevOps practices
  • Strong programming or scripting skills across modern languages used in test automation
  • Solid understanding of test strategies for unit, API, UI, contract, data and non‑functional testing
  • Ability to analyse complex systems, integrations and data flows
  • Strong communication, collaboration and problem‑solving skills
  • Experience documenting test strategies, contributing to frameworks and supporting continuous improvement
