About the role

 

A new, permanent opportunity for a Principal Engineer is now available at Coles.

Reporting to the Platform Manager – Monitoring and Observability, the primary function of this role will see you as a technical leader in implementing, supporting, and maintaining smooth delivery and operations of our Monitoring, Observability, and AiOps platforms & service.

This role will collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues, as well as contribute to ongoing enhancement and optimization efforts.

 

Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to the below:

 

  • Develop and implement strategic plans for AiOps initiatives.
  • Lead TechOps initiatives and develop/implement strategic plan, framework for tooling, process mapping, and technical modelling.
  • Work with BA, Splunk SMEs, and various technology SMEs to create automation framework for TechOps.
  • Implementing testing controls required based on ATF (Automated Testing Framework). 
  • Develop, train and deploy custom AI models to automate repetitive tasks and improve operational efficiency.
  • Provide technical leadership to M&O and AiOps service by guiding development teams, reviewing designs, and ensuring adherence to architectural standards.
  • Develop Business Service Tree mapping.
  • Maintain compliance with best practise guidelines and guardrails to optimise costs.
  • Lead and work with key stakeholders (i.e. Architecture) to establish best practice guidance and guardrails for Coles’ strategic platform.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and subject matter experts to gather requirements and help support evolving business needs.
  • Assist with performing regular system maintenance activities, including patching, upgrades, and performance tuning, to ensure optimal performance and stability of the platform.
  • Conduct thorough testing and validation of configurations, workflows, and integrations to ensure quality and reliability.
  • Contribute to developing and maintaining the required operational documentation, including standard operating procedures, technical guides, and knowledge base articles, to facilitate efficient troubleshooting and knowledge sharing.
  • Collaborate with the Splunk technical resources and account team to address technical issues and implement enhancements or bug fixes.
  • Act as a liaison between the support team and other IT teams, assisting with incident resolution, change management, and problem management processes.
  • Help build a strong brand for our helping to build a strong brand for our frontline Technology function and ServiceNow platform.

 

 

About you & your skills

 

  • Experience in delivering enterprise-scale AiOps and Automation initiatives using Splunk products, UiPath, ansible.
  • Experience in developing patterns and establishing best practice governance for automation, in collaboration with stakeholders
  • Experience supporting APM tool including Real and Synthetic Monitoring.
  • Strong background in data analytics and machine learning.
  • Experience in implementing and supporting Splunk Cloud and ITSI platforms.
  • Comprehensive experience in various data sources (monitoring tools, ticketing systems, logs, metrics, traces, OTEL, etc.)
  • Experience in process mining, automation optimisation and implementing & supporting RPA based automation (UiPath, Power Automate, etc.).
  • Experience in implementing & supporting Infrastructure IT Operations based automation (Ansible).
  • Extensive experience in Tech to Business Service Tree mapping.
  • Extensive experience in Event Management, workflow development.
  • Experience integrations to ServiceNow for Incident, Service Request, Change event mapping.
  • Experience in implement and supporting Intelligent Automation platforms.
  • Hands on experience with automating process, optimising workflows and integrations.  
  • Experience in delivery principles and coding standards.
  • Experience in scripting – PowerShell, Python, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of CI/CD, bitbucket, Azure DevOps,
  • Experience helping support groups and technology teams’ self-help and get the most out of the Splunk platform.
  • Technical experience in supporting AiOps, TechOps.
  • Advanced understanding of all aspects of the broader operational environment (i.e.. processes, procedures, associated toolsets, operating systems, etc.).
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure (Azure, GCP, AWS).
  • Experience in monitoring containerised solutions.
  • Proven capabilities in vendor, partner and stakeholder relationship management including the monitoring and maintenance of outsource agreements and project delivery to agreed service levels and timeframes.

 

 

Commercial Skills and Formal Qualifications

 

  • Splunk ITSI Certification.
  • APM certification (Cisco or Splunk preferred).
  • ITIL Certification.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to analyse and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Self-starter, Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to articulate solutions and influence others-simply.
