As a Payroll Compliance Officer, you'll be at the heart of our payroll compliance framework, leveraging data-driven reporting and insights to support compliance across all Coles brands and sites. As part of the Payroll Centre of Excellence (CoE), the Payroll Compliance Officer pays a critical role in supporting payroll compliance across the Coles Group portfolio, including Supermarkets, Liquor, Coles Services, Distribution Centres, Retail Manufacturing and other business units. Reporting to Payroll Compliance and Reporting Specialist, you will help drive payroll governance, compliance monitoring and reporting activities to ensure our team members are paid accurately and in accordance with legislative and industrial requirements.

 

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Deliver payroll compliance monitoring and reporting activities across allocated brands and sites.
  • Analyse payroll data to identify trends, risks and compliance issues.
  • Partner with Payroll Administrators, Line Managers, and business stakeholders to improve payroll practices.
  • Provide advice on payroll processes, Enterprise Agreements, Awards and legislative requirements.
  • Build, maintain and enhance payroll compliance reports and tools.
  • Conduct retrospective payroll compliance reviews to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen payroll governance, controls, and reporting capability.
  • Implement tactical payroll fixes and support accurate, compliant payroll processing.

 

 

Qualifications

 

  • 3+ years' experience in payroll operations, compliance, controls, or governance.
  • Experience with payroll and time & attendance systems and end-to-end payroll processes.
  • Strong understanding of payroll tax, WorkCover, superannuation, and PAYG obligations.
  • Experience interpreting Modern Awards and Enterprise Agreements.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Degree in Business, Commerce, Accounting, Human Resources or related discipline (desirable).
  • C.P.S (TAPS) qualification (optional).
  • Retail industry experience is highly regarded.
