The Role

We are currently searching for a junior to mid-level (+QPE) experienced employment lawyer to join our team. You will provide legal advice and partner with the business on employment law matters to ensure continuing commercial success of this business. Great opportunities for career development!

This role would be suitable for candidates looking to come out of an entry-mid level position from private practice or candidates with in-house experience at a large employer. Experience with advocacy and litigation, secondment experience or experience working with an ASX listed organisation in a legal role is preferred.

 

What you’ll be doing

  • Manage all employment law litigation across all brands, including appearing on behalf of Coles at the Fair Work Commission and in other Tribunals.
  • Provide strategic, commercial legal advice on employment law matters, including workforce restructures, complex investigations, disciplinary matters, discrimination issues and termination of employment matters.  
  • Assist the broader People & Culture Legal and Governance team with governance and compliance projects.
  • Looking ahead to ensure Coles is well placed to adopt any changes to employment related litigation or case law.

 

Good things you’ll need

  • Legal qualification
  • Current practicing certificate
  • Entry-mid level + PQE years of experience in employment law
  • Advocacy experience, ideally in contested hearings, before the Fair Work Commission or other Tribunals
  • Experience managing complex employment law matters in large organisations, ideally ASX listed
  • In-house, secondment experience preferred  
  • Ability to manage a variety of stakeholders
  • Capacity to handle change in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills; self-confidence
  • Strong client and results focus, motivated with can-do attitude
  • Ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities
