About the team
Our Technology team is the backbone of the business, building and maintaining the information technology infrastructure that support Coles Group. As a part of the Technology team, you get the opportunity to work through complex, challenging, meaningful problems using large data sets and new technologies to expand your skills and experience.
Primary Objective
Own the technical direction, security posture, and operational health of the web platform, enabling product engineering teams to deliver secure, scalable, and high-performing customer experiences. This role provides technical leadership across the web platform domain, with accountability for platform roadmap, vulnerability management, edge security configuration including Imperva, platform modernisation, and the standards and governance required to support product squads at scale.
Work Experience
- Extensive software engineering experience, including significant experience leading web platform or frontend platform capabilities in large-scale, customer-facing environments
- Deep experience in modern web architecture, frontend engineering, platform engineering, and distributed systems design
- Proven track record owning shared platforms used by multiple teams and products
- Strong experience in vulnerability management, security remediation, and secure software engineering practices
- Hands-on experience with edge security and delivery platforms such as Imperva, CDN, WAF, bot mitigation, caching, and traffic management
- Experience driving platform upgrades, framework and dependency uplift, and technical modernisation programs
- Experience defining and governing engineering standards, architecture principles, and platform guardrails
- Experience with GraphQL, ideally including federation, governance, or schema lifecycle management
- Experience with CI/CD, release automation, test automation, and DevSecOps practices
- Strong incident management, production support, and operational problem-solving capability
- Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive alignment without direct authority
Key Responsibilities
- Platform Strategy and Roadmap - Own the technical roadmap for the web platform, aligning platform investment with product strategy, security obligations, and operational needs
- Security, Risk, and Vulnerability Management - Own vulnerability management for the web platform, including identification, prioritisation, remediation planning, and reporting
- Platform Engineering and Modernisation - Lead platform upgrades, framework uplift, dependency management, and ongoing modernisation of the web stack
- GraphQL Platform Governance - Contribute to and govern API and GraphQL platform standards relevant to the web domain
- Team Enablement and Technical Leadership - Provide technical leadership, coaching, and mentoring across engineers working on or through the web platform
