About the team
Technology is the backbone of our business. Every day, our team solves complex and meaningful problems. Those solutions help thousands of our fellow team members succeed and make millions of customers’ lives easier every day.
By combining the fast-paced culture of retail with the ever-growing world of e-commerce, Coles takes the time and effort out of grocery shopping. With services such as Home Delivery, Click & Collect and smart lockers, we’re always working on new ways to make life a little easier for our customers – no matter where they are.
As the way we shop continues to evolve, our Digital team keeps us at the cutting edge. Driven by our innovative, inclusive and forward-thinking culture, we’re constantly looking at ways to reinvent the shopping experience for our customers and build the next generation of digital retailing.
About the role
As the group that enable the fulfilment of customer orders from our Liquorland, First Choice and Vintage Cellars stores, we are currently working on several cutting-edge initiatives that will allow us to take the next steps in our evolution towards greater efficiency and sustainability. You will be pivotal in making this happen.
In this role you will be delivering first-class software while employing leadership techniques to groom a high-performing team and grow a fun working culture.
You provide leadership, mentorship, support, and act as an enabler to your squad of engineers, balancing technical decision-making, delivery, and outcomes in alignment with the wider group’s objectives.
Part of your leadership responsibilities include defining and influencing proven engineering practices, while meeting both business and technical requirements; and as a member of the team, you will embody those practices as you also spend time on the tools, building and delivering critical functionality for our platforms.
As part of this role, you will drive engagement and morale and will promote a culture of collaboration, inclusiveness, openness & safety. You will be responsible for building and developing your team, as well as coaching and mentoring team members to grow and develop their skills.
About you and your skills
- Seasoned software engineer with at least 10 years’ experience
- Extensive experience with .NET frameworks and C#
- Experience driving high quality development practices and ensuring the scalability and repeatability of all practices
- Demonstrable experience in technical leadership, driving decision-making through pragmatic, quantitative analysis
- Extensive experience with solution design
- Extensive experience with microservices and serverless architectures
- Extensive experience working in cloud environments (strong preference for Azure)
- Experience with containerisation & release pipelines
- Good exposure to Agile working environments and ability to drive strong Agile ways of working
- Exposure to a “shift left” approach to quality and can influence team accordingly
- Experience working in large scale projects and heavy-traffic platforms
- Experience managing relationships with senior leaders and other stakeholders
- Proven ability to influence collaboration without formal authority
We’re looking for a team player with a growth mindset, who is not afraid to get their hands dirty in the technical solutions and their implementation. Someone with experience working collaboratively in cross-functional teams, who understands that engineering is about solving problems, not just writing code.
If this sounds like you, we’re keen to talk to you.
