About the role

This role is a key part of a major logistics transformation program. Coles is rebuilding last-mile planning and execution systems, as part of building a best in market grocery delivery capability. This role will work with vendors and technologies not otherwise in use elsewhere in Australia.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and analyse large transportation datasets from planning and execution systems, including fleet time and activity tracking.
  • Apply data science or similar advanced analytics techniques to transform and manipulate these datasets into accurate performance metrics and dashboards.
  • Use data insights to identify, quantify, and prioritize opportunities for improving delivery performance and reducing cost-to-serve.
  • Ability to work with large datasets using Python (or similar) mandatory.

 

Key Experience Required

  • 5+ years of experience in similar roles below working for complex organisations, preferably retail, FMCG or supply chain

-Logistics analyst / fulfilment analyst

-Operations research analyst

-Business intelligence / data analyst (logistics)

-Transportation planning analyst

  • Built automated reporting ideally across Last Mile; ie TMS/WMS, e-commerce, carrier APIs and telematics, delivering reliable dashboards (cost per order, on-time delivery, route density etc).
  • Developed business cases for new features, including ROI/NPV, payback, assumptions and benefit tracking.
  • Identified and prioritised savings opportunities in channel mix, delivery density, failed deliveries, and depot/driver utilisation with quantified impact.
  • Partnered with stakeholders (e.g. Operations, Product, Finance and Technology) to translate insights into actions; led concise readouts and decision forums.
  • Improved data quality by reconciling sources, defining metric semantics, implementing tests/alerts and maintaining Privacy controls.
  • Working knowledge of Python for analysis and light data modelling; Git basics; exposure to dbt/Airflow.
  • Advanced SQL and Excel; proven dashboarding in Power BI /Tableau on large, complex datasets.
  • Understanding of last-mile logistics, TMS/WMS planning systems, carrier performance metrics and telematics data.
  • Experience using time-series (i.e. vehicle activity over time)
  • Advanced modelling skills: unit economics, driver trees, ROI/NPV, payback, scenario and sensitivity analysis.
  • Experiment design and evaluation
  • Advanced Powerpoint skills; ability to build narrative around data through slides
  • Degree in Commerce, Economics, Business/Data Analytics or similar; desirable certifications (e.g., Power BI, SQL) and commitment to ongoing upskilling.
