About the role
A permanent opportunity of an Infrastructure Architect is now available at the Coles Group.
Reporting into the Enterprise Architect, this role will primarily be responsible for the design and development of cost-effective, fit-for-purpose solutions in line with Coles business and Technology strategy and supporting business cases for all on-prem, cloud and hybrid initiatives and projects.
Key responsibilities will include
Derives future state infrastructure architecture
- Reports straight line to the enterprise architect
- Works with peers (e.g., solutions, integration, cloud and security architects) to analyse enterprise business context to derive the future-state technology architecture. This includes defining the requirements, principles and models that guide technology decisions for the enterprise.
- Analysis of the current technology environment to detect critical deficiencies, legacy and technical debt, and recommends solutions for improvement.
- Collaborates with technical subject matter experts and technology peers to develop technology architecture that enables successful delivery of projects and initiatives.
- Participates in digital innovation by leveraging innovative technologies and approaches to renovate, extend, and transform the existing core technology base and IT estate.
- Defines high-level migration plans to address the gaps between the future and current state, typically in sync with the IT budgeting or other capital planning processes
Architecture and Governance
- Working in Collaboration with the wider Enterprise Architecture team and Technology Services with a focus on Infrastructure, Cloud, Data Centre and Edge
- Participates in architecture governance forums as a reviewer and presenter.
- Formulate and present weighted Key Design Decisions option papers
- Knowledge of wider IT tools, such as but not limited to document and information management, Enterprise Architecture Tools, CMDB’s, issue trackers & project planning.
Project responsibility
- Provide technical expertise and oversight to assigned projects
- Delivery of required non-functional deliverables.
- Participation in all phases of project from inception to post go-live care.

About you & your skills
- At least 5 years of Infrastructure, Cloud or Technical Architecture experience
- Extensive experience in developing technical infrastructure solutions specialising in Hybrid, Cloud, data centre and edge in large scale, complex and distributed environments
- Deep working knowledge in numerous areas such as networks, infrastructure, IaC, cloud/hyperscalers, hardware, commercial devices, edge compute and IoT
- Experience in working in and helping deliver large programs of work
- Proven capabilities in vendor, partner and stakeholder relationship management
- Ability to elicit non-functional requirements and use them to create technical documents
- Experience and willingness to collaborate with technical teams such as engineering, data, integrations, testers & support
Commercial Skills and Formal Qualifications
- Good understanding of technology trends and roadmaps
- Translation and alignment of business strategies into IT solutions
- Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders to achieve outcomes
- Proven experience in large, complex programmes
- Ability to identify deficient processes and address or reengineer
- Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology or related Business disciplines or relevant industry experience preferred
- Understanding of assurance and control structures e.g. legal, security, audit and financial management processes
- Knowledge of IT service management (ITSM) and Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL)
- Relevant retail business experience preferred
