As Head of Technology – eCommerce Services, you will lead the end-to-end delivery, stability, and transformation of our eCommerce services. Reporting directly to the General Manager for Customer & Digital, you will shape the future of our core eCommerce engine with composable architecture, ensuring future AI readiness. This role will also lead and steer the architect practice and DevOps chapters. 

 

The role combines strategic vision with hands-on leadership, offering the opportunity to influence senior stakeholders, drive transformation programs, and ensure operational excellence across one of the most critical areas of our business.

 

 

Key Responsibilities include

 

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of senior technology leaders across Architecture, Engineering, and DevOps.
  • Define and execute the eCommerce technology strategy, enabling omnichannel growth and future AI integration.
  • Ensure platform stability, scalability, and efficiency to support ongoing business performance.
  • Oversee transformation initiatives, including Project Skyline, to modernise the eCommerce core engine.
  • Partner with senior executives and business leaders to align technology outcomes with the company’s growth strategy.
  • Attract, retain, and build top technology talent to strengthen delivery and innovation capability.

 

 

About You & Your Skills

 

We’re looking for an experienced technology leader who can balance strategic foresight with delivery excellence. You will bring:

 

  • Proven track record in digital technology leadership roles within eCommerce, retail, or large-scale digital environments.
  • Expertise in eCommerce platforms, composable architecture, cloud technologies, DevOps, and modern engineering practices.
  • Strong skills in stakeholder management, influencing, and driving organisational change.
  • Experience leading complex transformation programs in high-pressure, customer-focused environments.
  • A collaborative, inspirational leadership style that empowers teams to deliver business outcomes.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or related discipline.
  • Strong technical leadership across web architecture, DevOps, cloud (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP), and software engineering practices.
  • Deep knowledge of modern eCommerce platforms, architecture patterns (e.g. MACH, headless, composable), and customer experience technologies – knowledge of Coles eCommerce products and platforms (e.g. HCLC) highly advantageous.
  • Advanced skills in digital performance optimisation, observability, and CI/CD practices for rapid deployment at scale.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with a proven ability to build, coach and scale high-performing technology teams.
  • Certifications in Agile, Cloud Architecture, DevOps or relevant digital technologies highly desirable.
