<h3>About the Role</h3> 


Are you a highly experienced strategic leader ready to drive business performance and growth for a major company? Coles is seeking a Head of Group Strategy to lead a high-performing team in identifying opportunities, analysing feasibility, and making strategic recommendations. This is a unique chance to shape the company's future by providing specialist advice and thought leadership to the executive team and the Board.

 

Reporting to the General Manager of Strategy, you will play a crucial role in providing commercial insight and strategic advice in Growth Initiatives.

 

Your primary objectives will also include;

  • Corporate Strategy Formation: You'll identify long-term strategic opportunities and work with the Executive Leadership team and Board to prioritise initiatives and create delivery plans.
  • Strategic Thought Leadership: You'll lead problem and opportunity analysis for senior executives, using a holistic, analytical approach to develop high-impact recommendations. You'll also be expected to share innovative and contemporary thinking on strategy, industry developments, and emerging opportunities to build capability within the team.
  • Communication and Influence: You will develop strategic recommendations based on high-quality analysis and insightful written materials, and you will engage with and influence the Board and executive team to support effective decision-making.
  • Horizon Scanning: You will develop and share intelligence about macro trends to help the company disrupt and create new markets. This includes embedding systems and processes to monitor broader influences and developing others to continuously analyse emerging threats and opportunities.
  • People Leadership: You'll lead a diverse workforce, communicating a clear vision and performance objectives for your team. This includes promoting talent identification, building capability, and empowering your direct reports.

 


<h3>About you and your skills</h3> 

 

We are seeking an individual with a strong background in strategy, with proven ability to bring high impact to the role and to meet organisational outcomes. To be successful in this role you will aim for the below:
 

  • Strategic and Lateral Thinking: The ability to resolve complex or ambiguous issues by drawing on your own and others' knowledge, while balancing a growth and innovation mindset with risk mitigation. You should also have an understanding of key business factors like M&A, financial modelling, and complex CAPEX projects.
  • Commercial Acumen: The ability to help shape performance targets and understand the implications of business decisions and actions.
  • Problem-Solving: You'll need to be a role model for others, using a holistic and analytical approach to solve complex problems and enable high-impact recommendations.
  • Experience at a top-tier strategy consulting firm, or at an ASX50 company. We have a strong preference for candidates with exposure to the global consumer, retail, and/or grocery sectors. You should also have proven experience in challenging and influencing senior stakeholders, writing Board-level reports, and leading complex strategic initiatives.
