The Digital team is focused on reinventing and transforming the retail experience to best suit our customers' needs and making their lives easier. We look ahead to continuously assess how we can apply the latest technologies in innovative ways to constantly improve the retail experience.

The Store Customer Platform is accountable for all customer facing technology solutions within our ~1500 Coles Supermarkets and Coles Express stores nationwide.  Primary systems in the Platform's portfolio include the Point of Sale, Assisted Checkout, Scales and Ticketing.


In this role you will be responsible for leading the development function within the Store Customer Platform Engineering team, leading the team to deliver technology updates and new solutions to support in-store critical operational processes.


This role will take a hands-on approach to designing, implementing and supporting leading engineering practices and technologies within the team. You are proactive and seek opportunities to streamline, modernise and automate wherever possible.


This role requires strong people leadership, and you will have proven experience leading, coaching, motivating and mentoring a medium to large size team of experience and well-seasoned engineers.


Experience with engineering practices including development, packaging, configuration as code, logging and monitoring, source control management (GIT and Azure Devops), automation (build, test, and deploy) is required.


Good things you’ll need


  • 5+ years’ experience managing a software development team
  • Previous experience working with complex systems engineering and business processes in regulated industries
  • Extensive experience in delivering large programs of work
  • Proven ability to manage an ever changing and complex program of work, resource management, change control, risk issues and assumptions management, status reporting, documentation and deliverable management
  • Experience in IT strategy development
  • experience in managing relationships with senior leaders
  • Ability to assess a business case and propose conceptual solutions, provide order-of-magnitude estimates and identify required enabling technology, synergies, dependencies and constraints
  • Experience in working in Agile and Waterfall and flexible approach to project methodologies
  • Proven experience leading developers to build quality solutions for Web and Windows services. (Net/.Net Core/ASP.NET, Web Api/REST Architecture, SQL, C# and Cloud services using MS Azure and AKS)

  • Ability to lead, coach, motivate and mentor others in the use, development and maintenance of the application stack and architecture is essential
  • Ability to communicate, influence and collaborate with technical and business stakeholders and team members to achieve outcomes
  • Excellent analytical and problem resolution skills
  • Capable of developing and promoting teamwork, being persuasive, approachable and able to self-manage effectively
  • A motivated and positive personality who can work well in a collaborative environment
  • Ability to build robust relationships with stakeholders to develop trust and ensure reliable and accurate information
  • In-depth understanding of software development lifecycle, development methodologies (including Agile), enterprise architecture principles and quality management.
