Our Technology team is the backbone of the business, building and maintaining the information technology infrastructure that support Coles Group. As a part of the Technology team, you get the opportunity to work through complex, challenging, meaningful problems using large data sets and new technologies to expand your skills and experience.
About the role:
We are looking for a Domain Architect to join our Workplace Services team in Technology. This role will be responsible for defining and maintaining the architectural vision and roadmap for the domain, ensuring alignment and enterprise architecture, business strategy and platform evolution. You will identify domain-specific risks, opportunities and technical debt, and shape architectural responses that optimise long-term outcomes.
Key responsibilities include:
- Set and uphold architecture principles, design patterns and technology standards for the domain to ensure consistency, interoperability and compliance
- Review and provide architectural oversight for significant solution designs, platform changes and new technology introductions within the domain
- Provide guidance and direction to Solution Architects embedded in engineering teams, promoting alignment and reusability across initiatives
- Actively contribute to the enterprise architecture community, working with other domain architects to shape cross-domain integration, shared services and strategic platforms
- Ensure architectural decisions within the domain consider broader enterprise implications including security, data, scalability and maintainability
- Represent the domain in enterprise-wide planning activities, architecture governance forums and strategic initiatives
- Stay informed on emerging technologies, vendor trends and architectural innovations relevant to the domain and retail technology more broadly
- Evaluate and recommend tools, platforms and technologies that enable agility, reduce complexity and accelerate delivery
- Partner with product, engineering and data teams to explore and validate new approaches, driving experimentation where appropriate
About you and your skills:
- 10+ years in technology architecture roles, including experience as a lead or enterprise architect in complex, enterprise environments
- Proven experience defining domain or enterprise-level architecture strategies and roadmaps and aligning them to business priorities and enterprise goals
- Track record of leading architectural governance, design authority and standards definition in fast-paced delivery environments
- Extensive experience designing scalable, secure and integrated platforms or systems across multiple technologies and architectural styles (eg, microservices, event-driven, cloud-native)
- Experience influencing senior technology and business stakeholders and facilitating consensus across competing priorities
- Experience in large-scale transformation, legacy modernisation and platform consolidation initiatives
- Demonstrated ability to work in federated or matrixed architectural environments, collaborating across domain and enterprise boundaries
- Deep expertise in architecture frameworks and practices such as TOGAF, Zachman or similar – formal certification is advantageous
- Strong understanding of enterprise integration, data flows, API management and security architecture
- Strong understanding of cloud architecture (AWS, Azure or GCP), SaaS integration and modern development/deployment practices
