Our platform includes 50+ support technology/digital platforms, applications, and tools that support the day-to-day running of stores, enhance team member productivity, and improve in-store customer experience.
About the role
As the Domain Architect – Store Operations, where you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the technology architecture that underpins how our stores operate today and transform for the future.
Reporting to the Head of Technology – Store Operations, this role ensures that Store Operations technology—covering workforce, tasking, inventory, and loss prevention—enables efficiency, resilience, and innovation at scale. Acting as the strategic bridge between business and technology, the architect sets the direction, reduces complexity, and ensures investments in store operations deliver measurable impact for customers, team members, and shareholders.
You’ll lead the definition of the future-state architecture for store operations, shape the long-term technology roadmaps along with Product Managers, identify and introduce innovation opportunities (AI, IoT, automation, edge computing) that transform the way stores run.
With up to 5 direct and indirect reports, you’ll be a strategic leader, mentoring and guiding product, architecture, engineering, and solution teams to build strong architectural discipline and capability.
This is a high-impact opportunity for a seasoned architect with deep expertise in retail technology, cloud platforms, and enterprise integration, who thrives in complex environments and is passionate about enabling business outcomes through technology.
A background in retail and a strong understanding of store operations are highly desirable, ensuring you can act as a trusted advisor to senior business leaders on technology strategy for store operations.
About you and your skills
• 15+ years in technology architecture roles, including experience as a lead or enterprise architect in complex, enterprise environments.
• Proven experience defining domain or enterprise-level architecture strategies and roadmaps and aligning them to business priorities and enterprise goals.
• Experience leading delivery of large-scale transformation initiatives, including legacy modernisation, platform consolidation and cloud migration.
• Demonstrated experience in influencing and implementing strategic planning and organisational structure, including operating models and functional designs, and enabling enterprise objective alignment.
• Demonstrated leadership in architectural governance, design authority and standards definition, embedding architecture effectively within agile delivery environments.
• Extensive experience designing scalable, secure and integrated platforms or systems across multiple technologies and architectural styles (e.g. microservices, event-driven, cloud-native).
• Strong track record of influencing senior technology and business stakeholders, driving consensus across competing priorities and achieving alignment.
• Demonstrated ability to work in federated or matrixed architectural environments, collaborating effectively across domain and enterprise boundaries.
• Proven impact in optimising cost, risk and value outcomes through architectural decision making.
• Strong expertise in architecture frameworks and practices, such as TOGAF, Zachman, or similar – formal certification is advantageous.
• Strong understanding of cloud architecture (AWS, Azure, GCP), SaaS integration, enterprise integration, data flows, API management and security architecture.
• Solid knowledge of data architecture and governance principles, including regulatory and compliance considerations in enterprise environments.
• Excellent systems thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to assess complex technology landscapes and design fit-for-purpose solutions.
