About the team
Our Technology team is the backbone of the business, building and maintaining the information technology infrastructure that support Coles Group. As a part of the Technology team, you get the opportunity to work through complex, challenging, meaningful problems using large data sets and new technologies to expand your skills and experience.
About the role:
We’re seeking a seasoned Domain Architect to join our Infrastructure team within Technology. This pivotal role will define and maintain the architectural vision and roadmap for infrastructure services to align with business objectives, with a strong focus on cloud platforms (including adaptive cloud), networking, and data centre technologies. Whilst leading engagement and delivery for our Infrastructure architects, you’ll ensure alignment with enterprise architecture, business strategy, and platform evolution, while identifying domain-specific risks, opportunities, and technical debt to shape architectural responses that optimise long-term outcomes.
Key responsibilities include:
- Define and uphold architecture principles, design patterns, and technology standards across cloud, network, and data centre domains to ensure consistency, interoperability, and compliance.
- Provide architectural oversight for major solution designs, platform transformations, and new technology introductions, particularly in cloud infrastructure, network services, and data centre operations.
- Guide and mentor Solution Architects embedded in engineering teams, promoting alignment and reusability across infrastructure initiatives.
- Collaborate with other domain architects to shape cross-domain integration, shared services, and strategic platforms, with a focus on hybrid cloud and edge computing.
- Ensure architectural decisions consider enterprise-wide implications including security, data sovereignty, scalability, and maintainability across cloud and on-prem environments.
- Represent the infrastructure domain in enterprise-wide planning, governance forums, and strategic initiatives, advocating for modernisation and resilience.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies and innovations in cloud architecture (Azure, GCP, AWS), software-defined networking, and data centre automation.
- Evaluate and recommend tools, platforms, and technologies that enhance agility, reduce complexity, and accelerate infrastructure delivery.
- Partner with product, engineering, and data teams to validate new approaches, driving experimentation in areas such as Infrastructure-as-Code, AI-driven automation, and self-service provisioning.
About you and your skills:
- 10+ years in technology architecture roles, including leadership in enterprise-scale infrastructure environments.
- Proven experience defining and executing architecture strategies and roadmaps aligned to business priorities and enterprise goals.
- Strong track record in architectural governance, design authority, and standards definition across cloud, network, and data centre domains.
- Deep expertise in designing scalable, secure, and integrated platforms using microservices, event-driven, and cloud-native architectures.
- Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and facilitate consensus across competing priorities.
- Experience leading transformation initiatives including legacy modernisation, cloud migration, and platform consolidation.
- Skilled in federated or matrixed architecture environments, collaborating across enterprise boundaries.
- Formal certification in architecture frameworks such as TOGAF or Zachman is highly regarded.
- Advanced knowledge of public/private/edge cloud architecture (Azure, GCP, VMWare, Azure Local, Hyper-V), SaaS integration, and modern CI/CD practices.
- Strong understanding of network services including voice and data across telephony, LAN, WAN, WLAN, and data centre networking.
- Expertise in core infrastructure components including physical data centres, midrange systems, databases, operating systems, enterprise storage, and backup services.
- Experience integrating automation and Infrastructure-as-Code capabilities, and applying AI to optimise infrastructure service delivery.
