About the team
Our Technology team is the backbone of the business, building and maintaining the information technology infrastructure that support Coles Group. As a part of the Technology team, you get the opportunity to work through complex, challenging, meaningful problems using large data sets and new technologies to expand your skills and experience.
About the role:
The Domain Architect – Enterprise Engineering owns the enterprise-wide integration architecture for Coles. This role defines the vision, standards, and guardrails that ensure systems across all domains integrate in a consistent, scalable, secure, and resilient way.
You will lead a team of senior domain architects, work closely with Engineering and Platform teams, and influence senior business and technology leaders to make high quality, long-term architectural decisions. This role sets the bar for integration design and ensures architecture enables speed, reliability, and future growth at enterprise scale.
Key responsibilities:
Enterprise Integration Strategy
- Define and own the enterprise integration architecture vision and target state
- Establish standard integration patterns (API, event driven, messaging, data movement)
- Ensure integration architecture aligns to business strategy and technology direction
- Drive simplification, reuse, and reduction of fragmentation across the enterprise
Architecture Standards & Governance
- Set and enforce enterprise integration standards and reference architectures
- Lead design governance for complex, high impact initiatives
- Ensure architectural decisions balance delivery speed with long term sustainability
- Raise the quality bar for integration design across all domains
Engineering & Delivery Partnership
- Partner deeply with Engineering, Platform, and Product teams
- Embed architecture early to accelerate delivery and reduce rework
- Ensure architecture is practical, consumable, and delivery focused
- Support teams to make sound architectural trade offs at pace
Leadership & People
- Lead, coach, and develop senior integration and domain architects
- Build a strong, aligned architecture community across domains
- Foster a culture of ownership, deep thinking, and continuous improvement
- Informally develop future architecture leaders across Technology
Stakeholder Influence
- Communicate complex architecture clearly to technical and nontechnical audiences
- Influence Directors, GMs, and senior leaders without direct authority
- Act as a trusted advisor on integration risk, investment, and architectural direction
About you and your skills:
To be successful, you will have extensive experience delivering the following:
- Consistent, high quality integration designs across all domains
- Faster delivery enabled by clear standards and trusted patterns
- Reduced duplication and technical debt across integration platforms
- Enterprise architecture realised progressively through delivery
- Architecture recognised as an enabler of business outcomes
- Extensive experience in enterprise scale integration architecture
- Proven success in large, complex, distributed environments
- Strong knowledge of APIs, event driven architectures, messaging, and platforms
- Experience setting and governing enterprise architecture standards
- Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders
- Retail or similarly complex industry experience highly regarded
