The Merchandise Strategy and Transformation team forms part of our Centre of Excellence and plays a critical role in providing Subject Matter Expertise and support to our Business Unit teams across the Coles Merchandise business. 

 

About the role 

The Group Product Owner - Data will help build out and embed the group data strategy and will be responsible for operationalising and leading this newly created Data Governance & Analytics team.  

Key accountabilities include establishing data management and governance foundations, delivering insight generation solutions, collaboration, planning, and uplifting data capabilities for the Coles Merchandise business.  

 

What you’ll be doing 

As a newly created position and team, you will have an opportunity to build the foundational structure and develop a way of working; bringing structure and governance to the way we manage and govern our product data & analytics.  

 

You’ll also: 

  • Set the Merchandise Data strategy and vision. Own, shape and operationalise the Merchandise Data strategy roadmap. 

  • Engage with the broad senior stakeholder group to influence product data decisions at an enterprise level. 

  • Act as the delegate for the Product Data Owner, leading the team responsible for Product Data.

  • Act as Business Owner of the Master Data Management (MDM) system, helping operationalise MDM within a data governance & compliance framework.

  • Work with various project teams to ensure project alignment and coordination. 

  • Manage your team in the delivery of capabilities to support the Merchandise business.  

  • Provide direction, team management and oversight of capabilities.

 

Good things you’ll need 

  • A tertiary qualification in Information Technology, data analytics or associated field is highly regarded.  

  • Demonstrated experience in leading data and analytics teams, or hubs. 

  • Demonstrated experience in working with and influencing senior stakeholders within a complex matrix environment. 

 

Experience preferred across the following: 

  • Working with retail product data  

  • Creating and setting data strategy and implementing this across multiple functional groups. 

  • Data management and governance, data analytics reporting and visualisation. 

  • Knowledge of data and analytics leading market trends and best practises. 

  • Complex problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage change in an organisation.
