Role Overview
This role is ideally suited to candidates with a legal, regulatory compliance, or risk management background who can navigate complex regulatory environments and provide practical, commercially focused advice. The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) requirements, Competition and Consumer Law (ACL), and broader consumer protection obligations. They will play a critical role in ensuring Coles 360's commercial, supplier engagement, marketing, and advertising activities operate within legal and regulatory requirements while supporting business growth.
Responsibilities
- Provide expert guidance on Competition and Consumer Law, ACCC expectations, and emerging regulatory developments impacting retail media, supplier engagement, marketing, and advertising practices.
- Partner with Legal, Risk, Commercial, and Marketing teams to identify, assess, and mitigate compliance risks.
- Conduct compliance risk assessments and implement appropriate controls to support regulatory obligations.
- Support the review of marketing campaigns, commercial initiatives, supplier agreements, and customer-facing communications to ensure compliance with applicable laws and internal policies.
- Develop and maintain robust compliance monitoring, assurance, and reporting frameworks to identify and address regulatory risks proactively.
- Lead investigations into compliance breaches, regulatory incidents, and complaints, ensuring appropriate remediation and stakeholder engagement.
Skills & Experience
- 5+ years' experience in compliance, legal, risk, governance, or a related discipline.
- Strong working knowledge of Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) regulations, Competition and Consumer Law (ACL), and consumer protection frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience in legal compliance, risk management, and control framework design within a complex commercial environment.
- Experience advising on commercial, marketing, advertising, and consumer law compliance matters.
- Proven ability to interpret legislation, regulatory guidance, and industry codes and translate these into practical business solutions.
- Experience building and managing compliance programs, including risk assessments, control design, monitoring, investigations, and issue resolution.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence senior leaders and challenge constructively when required.
- Experience preparing compliance reporting and risk insights for executive and senior management audiences.
- Experience working within retail, FMCG, media, advertising, marketing, or highly regulated industries will be highly regarded.
Qualifications & Capabilities
- Tertiary qualification in Law, Business, Risk, Governance, Compliance, or a related discipline.
- Law degree (LLB/JD) and/or legal practice experience highly regarded.
- Professional qualifications in compliance, governance, risk management, or legal practice are advantageous.
- Strong understanding of risk and control frameworks, regulatory compliance obligations, and governance principles.
- Ability to balance legal and compliance requirements with commercial objectives and business outcomes.
- Highly developed analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
