About the team

Our Technology team is the backbone of the business, building and maintaining the information technology infrastructure that support Coles Group. As a part of the Technology team, you get the opportunity to work through complex, challenging, meaningful problems using large data sets and new technologies to expand your skills and experience.

Our Cloud Engineering team helps Coles build and operate the secure, reliable and scalable cloud foundations that power our Technology and Digital ecosystem. We partner with application, platform and delivery teams to simplify cloud adoption, improve resilience and create reusable capabilities that support better outcomes for our customers.

You will work in a collaborative engineering environment alongside cloud specialists, engineering leaders and delivery partners. The team values practical problem solving, strong technical standards and continuous improvement.

About the role

As a Cloud Engineer, you will design, build and support cloud infrastructure and services, primarily across Microsoft Azure.

You will combine hands-on engineering with automation, security and operational discipline to deliver cloud environments that are reliable, repeatable and cost effective. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, Cloud Engineering, you will design, deploy and maintain scalable, secure and highly available Azure infrastructure.

In this role you will build reusable Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, maintain automation for provisioning and configuration, and develop and enhance CI/CD workflows using tools such as Azure DevOps.

The role will see you apply security controls across identity and access management, encryption, vulnerability management and compliance, while implementing monitoring and alerting, analysing performance and resolving cloud-related incidents through structured root cause analysis.

You will contribute to disaster recovery, cloud migration and hybrid-cloud initiatives, identify opportunities to improve reliability, developer experience and cloud cost efficiency, as well as partner closely with application, DevOps and delivery teams to provide practical technical guidance on cloud adoption.

Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure is essential, particularly across cloud infrastructure, automation, and operational support.

About you and your skills

You are a hands-on cloud engineer who enjoys improving platforms, automating repetitive work and solving complex infrastructure problems. You bring a strong security mindset, communicate clearly and work effectively with a range of technical and non-technical stakeholders.

You will bring a strong mix of the following:

• Commercial experience in cloud engineering, platform engineering, DevOps or a closely related discipline.
• Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, including cloud networking concepts such as Private Endpoints, NSGs, and routing.
• Practical experience with Terraform or another Infrastructure as Code framework.
• Automation or scripting capability using Python, PowerShell, or Bash.
• Experience building and supporting CI/CD pipelines and modern engineering delivery practices.
• Experience with observability platforms such as Azure Monitor, Datadog, Splunk, Prometheus or the ELK Stack.
• Sound knowledge of cloud security, IAM, encryption and vulnerability management.
• Strong troubleshooting, communication and collaboration skills.
• Relevant cloud certifications or tertiary qualifications are valued, although equivalent practical experience is equally important.

If you’re an experienced Azure Cloud Engineer looking to build secure, scalable and reliable cloud platforms, we’d love to hear from you.
