About the team

 

Our Technology team is the backbone of the business, building and maintaining the information technology infrastructure that support Coles Group. As a part of the Technology team, you get the opportunity to work through complex, challenging, meaningful problems using large data sets and new technologies to expand your skills and experience.

About the Role

As a Cloud Engineer, you will design, build, and operate secure, scalable, and reliable cloud platforms that enable teams to deliver faster and more safely. You’ll work across infrastructure, automation, security, and platform services, helping improve the developer experience while maintaining strong operational standards.

Key responsibilities:

  • Build, deploy, and maintain cloud infrastructure with a focus on scalability, resilience, and reliability
  • Monitor platform performance, availability, and capacity, and drive continuous improvement
  • Implement cloud cost optimisation strategies across cloud environments
  • Support disaster recovery, backup, and business continuity capabilities
  • Develop and manage Infrastructure as Code using tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation
  • Automate provisioning, configuration, and scaling of cloud environments
  • Embed strong security practices, including IAM governance, encryption, and compliance controls
  • Conduct audits and vulnerability assessments to help maintain a secure cloud environment
  • Contribute to documentation, standards, and knowledge sharing across the Cloud Engineering team

 

About You and Your Skills

You’re a hands-on engineer with strong cloud and platform capabilities, a security-first mindset, and a passion for automation and continuous improvement.

You’ll ideally bring:

  • A background in cloud engineering, platform engineering, DevOps, SRE, or similar roles
  • Strong hands-on experience with one or more major cloud platforms: AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • Experience working across both cloud and on-premises environments
  • Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code, particularly Terraform or CloudFormation
  • Experience with automation and scripting using tools such as Python, Go, PowerShell, or Bash
  • Experience with CI/CD and DevOps practices using tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps
  • Strong understanding of logging, monitoring, packaging, provisioning, and configuration as code
  • Knowledge of networking, APIs, distributed systems, integration patterns, and modern architecture practices
  • Experience with Git-based workflows and GitOps practices
  • Familiarity with network policies, firewall logging, IAM governance, and vulnerability management
  • Experience working in Agile teams using Scrum, Kanban, or similar ways of working
  • A customer-focused mindset, with a passion for enablement and self-service platform design
