Our Coles Liquor team work across three leading brands (Liquorland, First Choice Liquor Market and Vintage Cellars), each with their own unique offering and customer base. Are you ready to take the next step in your buying career and help shape the future of retail liquor in Australia? Coles Liquor is seeking a passionate and driven Assistant Category Buying Manager to support the execution of our commercial strategy and deliver exceptional value to our customers.
As an Assistant Category Buying Manager, you’ll play a key role in supporting the Category Manager across all channels. You’ll help build trade and promotional plans, maintain strong supplier relationships, and ensure seamless execution of category strategies. This is a dynamic role that blends commercial acumen, stakeholder engagement, and data-driven decision-making.
You’ll also:
- Develop and execute trade and promotional plans aligned with the value strategy and trading principles
- Collaborate with suppliers to negotiate promotional deals and manage day-to-day relationships
- Support range reviews, product launches, and category planning
- Provide financial analysis and insights to drive performance
- Maintain promotional and product master data in collaboration with internal teams
- Act as a central point of contact for resolving cross-functional issues
About you and your skills
The ideal candidate for the Assistant Category Buying Manager role is a commercially savvy, customer-focused professional with a strong analytical mindset and a passion for retail. They are curious and proactive, able to turn data into actionable insights and contribute meaningfully to category strategies. With experience in product or portfolio management, they thrive in collaborative environments, build strong stakeholder relationships, and adapt quickly to changing priorities. Their ability to balance strategic thinking with operational execution makes them a key contributor to driving growth and delivering value for customers.
You’ll also have:
- Experience working with suppliers and supporting buyers in system-related tasks
- Strong relationship-building skills across internal and external stakeholders
- High attention to detail and data accuracy
- Advanced PC skills, especially in Microsoft Excel and Word
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- RSA certification
