Coles is looking for a Portfolio Analyst to join our Portfolio Management function, part of the broader Technology Commercial Operations team on a 12 months fixed term engagement. This opportunity will help you shape our future, facilitating core Technology Business Management processes, and supporting change across Coles’ technology landscape.


About the role:


Our Commercial Operations team is on the lookout for an experienced Portfolio Analyst, playing a pivotal role in portfolio management, and technology business management. This team affords Project Office, Technology Operations and Portfolio Management capabilities, supporting decision making across Coles’ Technology function.


The Commercial Operations team provides support and guardrails for project and product delivery, the management of project delivery tooling and processes, external resource and vendor management, risk, audit and compliance, and the provisioning of relevant and timely information to support Tech-wide decision making.


Currently, the Commercial Operations team is supporting our transition to a product-centric model, which is underpinned by Agile ways of working, through new frameworks, tooling, and processes.


What you’ll be doing:


As the Portfolio Analyst, you are responsible for supporting all elements of portfolio management, including reporting and actionable insights.  This role will have you work closely with various key Technology portfolios, providing a central point of governance and eliciting information to form a view of portfolio health.


You’ll also:

  • Support all aspects of the Portfolio Management function, with a focus on developing, preparing, and managing relevant reporting.
  • Analyse and monitor portfolio performance (value delivery), health, and cycle times.
  • Lead in facilitating the consolidation of information to enable a holistic investment pipeline for the Technology function (both Product Squad and Project).
  • Maintain visual walls and systems (virtual/physical) and provide a central view across the portfolio of cross-platform dependencies, resource, and schedule constraints.
  • Create and maintain a forward projection of resourcing demand for the Technology function, to inform capacity planning.
  • Work across Technology to foster Agile ways of working.



Good things you’ll need:


We are looking for a Portfolio Analyst with extensive experience in portfolio management, supporting and leading various technology processes across a complex and large-business environment. You will be managing a variety of portfolio processes and support a variety of internal stakeholders.


This role will see you build a foundation for ongoing reporting and insights, to facilitate decision making across Technology. You will execute core business operations, processes, and governance including project initiation, approval, and resource demand.


You’ll also need:

  • Previous experience as a Portfolio Analyst, Project Analyst, PMO Analyst or similar, working across information technology services.
  • Commercial understanding of Agile ways of working & principles, and other project delivery methodologies/frameworks.
  • Experience in Project Management Office (PMO) functions and Portfolio Project Management tools (i.e. Monday.com, Clarity PPM)
  • Proficiency in supporting PMOs, portfolios, project prioritisation and planning.
  • Proficiency in resource capacity planning and demand management.
  • Advanced excel and dashboard reporting experience, and sound financial acumen.
